People Express Airlines Acrylic Snowflake Ornament

This ornament recalls People Express Airlines of Newark, New Jersey, formed in 1981 to provide low fare services from the underused Newark Airport across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Beginning service with a small fleet of boeing 737-100 aircraft acquired from Lufthansa, the airline grew rapidly with a fleet that soon included the 737-200, 727-200, and Boeing 747.

Services to Europe and the U.S. west coast were added to the network, and the airline operated 80+ aircraft at its peak. Acquisitions of Frontier Airlines, Britt Airways, and PBA placed a financial strain on the airline, and it was acquired by Texas Air Corp. in 1986 for merger into Continental Airlines.

An artistic interpretation of the airline's brand is laser-engraved with exacting detail onto a cut acrylic snowflake crystal ornament, measuring approximately 3.4 inches (8.6 cm) between opposite points, with a material thickness of 1/8 inch.
